In this piece, I was barely becoming acquainted with Maya as a sculptural medium. While the assignment did not call for complex environments, I wanted to make some attempt at it just so I would feel empowered to mess with 3D environments in the future. I started with a centralized mesh of shapes which would be almost a controlling factor of the environment. The environment ended up being a mountainous region with surreal, floating structures. In a sense, I was using my lack of knowledge to my advantage by creating an environment that was intentionally artificial to challenge real world physics. It was also brought to my attention that lighting systems are crucial in these environments, which certainly makes for larger rendering types, but opens up the possibility for projects which use these life like elements in interesting, unorthodox ways.
